I think it is awful that the employees of Walgreens stand out front of the Memorial Dancewear store and smoke and sometimes park their vehicles in front of the store all day.

I grew up here back in the 60's and 70's....know as an adult this wasn't the greatest place to grow up in, but this was the best place my mother could provide and it was an awesome place as far as I'm concerned.

This place had AC 50 years ago! Houston should be proud of this structure. Build a theme park across the freeway where Astroworld was and incorporate the world's largest indoor water park and roller coaster in the dome. Tell me people won't go there in droves.
Elvis performed here in 1970 before 200,000 people over 6 shows. A record. That's enough reason to save it.

The Guiness Book of World Records listed the penthouse suite of the Astroworld Hotel as the world's most expensive - in 1970, at $2500/night. Elvis stayed here during his Astrodome stints.

My grandmother and mother both worked for Candy in 1960's up to 1967. We lived next to mansion in guest house. I was only four yrs. Old and remember always having to go inside when Melvin and Candace fought! It was chaotic. My sister went to River Oaks Elementary back then. It was fun growing up there, but scary when Candace was out of it! I remember playing in the pool and Martha gave me a Ms. Beasley doll for my birthday. We have alot of pictures of my mom with Candace traveling and in restaurant's with Nat King Cole etc.. Melvin was always good to our family and no matter what he always was a gentlemen to me and my friends later in life. We got to hang out in his Arena Theatre Penthouse. We still keep intouch with Dan Mossler.
