  • Hogan-Allnoch Dry Goods building (site), Ron Rodriguez (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
This was a dry goods business (towels, blankets, sheets, socks...). It was located near the current Minute Maid Ball Park close to the old train station. My grandmother Adela Rodriguez (deceased) worked there for many years and retired from there. They had an old warehouse elevator. I think the building was 3 stories.

  • Signature Eye Care, Todd A (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
So I went in to get a new pair of glasses, get the eye exam, order what I think is a pair of progressive transition lens. When I get the glasses, small print is blurry, I take the glasses in and I'm told that a mistake was made on my order that they didn't order progressive lenses, and wait for it... They want to charge me an additional $150.00 for them to correct their mistake of not actually ordering the correct lens type! I asked for a full refund which they obliged.

It renovated in 1995, it turns out. "Rice Food Market has announced plans to renovate the Rice Epicurean Market at 3745 Westheimer at Weslayan. The store, which will include a coffee and dessert bar and See's Candies boutique, will expand from 28,500 square feet to 35,000 square feet. The store will remain open during the renovations, which are expected to be completed in late fall."

I lived in the Irvington Courts in the mid 40s. I loved the continuous sidewalks. Great for two wheel scooters. :) We had a real "ice box." Got a block of ice twice a week. My mom did the best she could. We didn't know we were poor.
